Gray Controls on utilising MobiusFlow to advance building sustainability efforts

We talk to Patrick Gray, founder of Gray Controls, a leading provider of Building Management System (BMS) solutions

We talk to Patrick Gray, founder of Gray Controls, a leading provider of Building Management System (BMS) solutions and energy management services to find out more about their ‘Periscope’ visualisation tool and how MobiusFlow is being implemented within their solutions.

MF: Can you start by telling us about Gray Controls and the services you offer?

PG: At Gray Controls, we specialize in providing comprehensive BMS solutions and energy management services to optimize building operations and reduce costs. Our services include Energy Dashboards that offer real-time data analysis, BMS design consultancy services from concept to tender issue, full BMS installations to control and monitor mechanical and electrical equipment and Building Controls Energy Audits to identify energy-saving opportunities.

MF: Can you tell us more about Periscope and how it enhances building management?

PG: Periscope is our innovative solution designed to provide users with a dynamic way to view facility information within their buildings. It allows users to quickly identify issues, assess relationships, and take action to optimize resource efficiencies. Each user gets their own unique dashboard, customized from a library of “view lets,” ensuring a personalized experience for every user, whether technical or non-technical. Plus, Periscope’s mobile accessibility makes it convenient for users to access their dashboards on any device supporting HTML5.

MF: How does Gray Controls ensure seamless BMS installations and provide ongoing support to clients?

PG: We take pride in being an Independent BMS Design Consultancy with complete BMS controls installation software and engineering services. Our team works closely with clients from initial design to installation and beyond, ensuring that their BMS solutions are tailored to their specific needs and objectives. Additionally, our service level agreements include Building Controls Energy Audits to continually identify energy-saving opportunities and optimize building operations for our clients.

MF: Can you share any success stories or examples of how Gray Controls’ solutions have made a difference for your clients?

PG: Certainly. We’ve had numerous success stories where our solutions have significantly improved building operations and reduced costs for our clients. For example, one of our clients saw a dramatic decrease in energy consumption after implementing our Energy Dashboard and optimizing their BMS controls based on our recommendations. Another client experienced improved occupant comfort and satisfaction after upgrading their BMS system with our consultancy services. These success stories showcase the tangible benefits of our solutions in enhancing building efficiency and performance.

MF: how are Gray Controls utilising MobiusFlow to advance building sustainability efforts?

PG: At Gray Controls, we recognise the critical role that data connectivity plays in optimising building sustainability. MobiusFlow serves as the connective tissue that enables us to seamlessly integrate data from various devices and systems into our BMS solutions. This connectivity allows us to gather real-time insights into building performance and energy usage, empowering us to make informed decisions that drive sustainability initiatives forward.

MF: Can you give us an example of how MobiusFlow has been instrumental in improving building sustainability for one of your clients?

PG: We recently worked with a large commercial building that was looking to enhance its sustainability efforts. By integrating MobiusFlow into their existing BMS solution, we were able to connect data from HVAC systems, lighting controls, and energy meters, among other devices. This allowed us to monitor energy usage in real-time, identify inefficiencies, and implement targeted optimisations to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Using MobiusFlow, we were able to achieve significant improvements in building sustainability while also reducing operational costs for our client.

MF: How does MobiusFlow facilitate the connectivity of data and devices within building management systems?

PG: MobiusFlow acts as a middleware solution that seamlessly bridges the gap between disparate devices and systems within a building. It provides a unified platform for collecting, analysing, and acting upon data from various sources, allowing us to create holistic BMS solutions that optimize building performance and sustainability. Whether it’s integrating HVAC controls, lighting systems, or occupancy sensors, MobiusFlow enables us to connect the dots and unlock actionable insights that drive tangible results for our clients.

MF: How do you see the future of building management evolving with the continued use of MobiusFlow and similar technologies?

I believe that the future of building management will be characterized by increased connectivity, intelligence, and sustainability. Technologies like MobiusFlow will play a pivotal role in enabling building owners and operators to leverage data-driven insights to optimize performance, reduce environmental impact, and enhance occupant comfort. As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible with data connectivity and BMS solutions, I’m confident that we’ll see even greater strides in building sustainability in the years to come.
